UP THE CREEK  2006

It's been a wonderful summer with plenty of rain.   With days of moderate temperatures and nights near freezing, color was slow to develop, but when it did, the hues were vibrantly clear and lasted to perfection for weeks on end.  We decided to take a short trip to photograph some of our favorite sights, which we would like to share.  Also included are a few winter scenes to place you in the mood of an Appalachian  winter in the mountains of Southwest Virginia.

Big Reed Island Creek (the southern boundary of the farm) forms the beginning and end of our brief journey.  With headwaters deep in the forest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is one of the few remaining unpolluted streams in the East.

Within a radius of ten miles, we hope to capture the essence of Appalachia.  In future, we expect to photograph other seasons, perhaps using some of the same sights.      Dwayne & Gifford
