It has become increasingly clear that now is the time to permanently close the Dowery. The twenty year trip has been quite eventful. As I have aged significantly, I can no longer take care of the orchid business and run the farm at the same time. Since the farm is where I live, work eat and sleep - it has to continue.

During the early part of 2010 I lost contact with my major supplier of species and that has contributed greatly to my closing. Frankly, I think it isn't much fun to sell material that all other growers also has available. Dealing with the 'exotics' has ruined my taste for the 'ordinary' ... and although that sounds a bit 'snooty', it is true.

Also, all costs, including importing, growing, marketing and shipping have increased significantly during the past couple of years and one can only see that continuing in the future...making a small profit even smaller.

So, thank for the ride and I wish all of you well in your growing experiences, and hope they bring many awards along the way.

Best regards, Dwayne
